In this scenario, a Guy is creating a replacement character and wants to start with a specialized weapon
Guy (New Character) : Ok, so I have this perfect new character to fit in
GM: Great, ok so you can..
Guy (New Character): Well there is one thing I am not sure how to do
GM: Hrm?
Guy (New Character): Well I'd like to start out armed with a Kusuri-Gama
GM: ...
Guy (New Character): Its a weapon from Japan
GM: Obviously, I know what it is.
The GM glances down at his phone and navigates to google. After several botched attempts to google "Cursory Gamma" he looks up
GM: That's uh, spelled like..
Guy (New Character): Just copy paste it from up above
The GM successfully googles it
GM: Oh you mean a Kusarigama, you spoke it all wrong.
Guy (New Character): Yeah, whatever. So how would that work in combat?
The GM muses on it.
GM: Well I guess that depends on how you attack with it. The Wikipedia article says you have multiple attack styles. Whirling the chain above your head to entangle a weapon looks like it takes two hands. So I'd say the thing is a Medium weapon with the Bastard, Blunt, and Entangling tags. Medium due to size, Bastard because this mode of using it takes two hands, blunt because its a weight on the end of a chain, and entangling because that is its main use. Oh! And Weird of course because its a chain weapon like a flail. The other part of the weapon is basically a sickle for slashing it looks like. That makes it a slashing weapon. The blade seems undersized for a two handed weapon so I would assume it has the ineffective tag. Its meant for a heavy chop so I'd give it the heavy tag as well when swung like that.
Guy (New Character): You are meant to rush forward with the sickle after the entanglement, shouldn't the chain also have reach? It is a really long chain
GM: That makes sense I guess. This seems like a really finicky weapon though so I am going to suggest you need a specific skill or background to use this at all.
Guy (New Character): Absolutely
GM: Are you going to be a visiting Ninja or something?
Guy (Cletus): Not exactly, think more "Mullet and Jorts" themed.
